Give Up Control: The Discipline of Surrender
Part of being a claimed boy is giving up control to Sir. When you surrender to Sir’s higher power, you trust in his plan for your life.
For many boys, the art of surrender can be difficult. Your busy mind wants to take control and prevents you from fully surrendering to the freedom of being claimed. Practising giving up control is a useful tool for boys even when not under formal ownership. This simple task will help you surrender to powers outside of yourself.
The Game of Chance
The objective of this exercise is to silence the “ego” and the habit of decision-making. By deferring to a random outcome, you prepare the mental pathways required to defer to a Master’s command without hesitation.
Step 1: Carry with you a pair of dice, or download a dice app on your phone.
Step 2: As you go through your day, use the dice to determine as many decisions as you can. Practice giving up control to a higher power—in this case, fate.
Example One: Transport
“Shall i take the 08:00 or the 08:15 bus?” Throw your dice. Even and you take the 08:00; Odd and you take the 08:15.
Example Two: Sustenance
“What will i have from the menu?” Throw your dice. If the number is 5, you must order whatever the fifth item on the menu is, regardless of your personal preference.
The Goal of the Protocol
This simple task is all about surrendering control. Do it regularly and you will learn to relax, eventually finding peace in letting Sir make your decisions for you. When you have mastered surrendering to a die, surrendering to a Superior man becomes the natural next step in your evolution.
